A collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles with applied pressure on targeted tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, joints, etc.) and lymphatic vessels or organs of the gastrointestinal system, returning blood flow to the heart. Swedish uses 5 strokes to stimulate circulation of blood through the body; petrissage (knead), effleurage (stroke), vibration, friction, tapotement (tapping).
